2025 Miami Valley Woodcarvers Association Annual Show

On March 1st and 2nd, 2025, the 45th Annual Miami Valley Woodcarvers Association Show took place in Middletown, Ohio. The event featured 38 exhibitors and vendors showcasing their skills and products. The River Valley Wood Carvers (RVWC) had a strong presence with eight members actively participating in the show and achieving notable success in the carving competition.

ROBIN HAHN

• Second Place in the OPEN Division with his carving of a wood spirit in a cypress knee.

• Second Place in the INSTRUCTOR ASSISTED Division with his carving of a cowboy’s face.

• Third Place in the CANES/WALKING STICKS Division with his carving of a tree frog.

JIM PROVINS

• First Place in the AQUATIC REALISTIC Division with his carving of an alligator.

• Second Place in the ROUGH OUT Division with his carving of a cowboy and his two pet sidekicks.

BILL PAULY

• First Place in the CARICATURES Division with his carving of two railroad workers.

RALPH COOPER

• First and Second Place in the CANES/WALKING STICKS Division with his Aesop Fable carvings of “The Fighting Roosters and the Eagle” and “The Lion’s Share.”

RVWC Club President, Robin Hahn, also earned additional recognition by securing Second Place in the Sunday Afternoon Carving Contest with his intricate egg carving of a baby chick.

Club member John Schneider contributed a truly unique and captivating display of antique hand tools, many of which featured intricate carvings themselves, offering a glimpse into the artistry and craftsmanship of bygone eras. His exhibit added a valuable historical perspective to the event, enriching the experience for all attendees and proving to be exceptionally well-received by both seasoned carvers and casual observers alike.

The two-day event, filled with camaraderie and shared passion, was an excellent opportunity for carvers to reconnect with old friends, forge new connections, and celebrate the rich traditions and evolving techniques of their beloved craft.
