‘Twas The Night With No Carving

Twas the night with no carving, a festive affair,

No knives were sharpened, no wood shavings there.

Our carvers assembled, a merry old crew,

For a Christmastime gathering, something different to do.

Rather than carving, a holiday party,

At Lother’s for a hot meal and laughter so hearty.

The meal was opened with a prayer of grace,

By Dan and Jackson – a warm smile on each face.

Roast beef and chicken, potatoes so fine,

With veggies and salad, a culinary design.

As we ate and we laughed, stories old and new,

Ron’s slideshow brought memories, a heartwarming view.

And after our meal what then should appear

But Candy with all of her entertainment gear.

A royal grand party she had prepared,

With games to play and costumes to wear.

The new club president was looking quite dire,

As Candy dressed him in court jester attire.

The outgoing president, dressed as Rudolph of old,

Had a glowing red nose and antlers, and looked quite bold.

Everyone else added decorations to their heads,

Joyce wore angel wings that she never shed.

Ever so quickly Candy’s instructions came,

As she waved her arms and called them by name.

Now, Gitta! Now, Mike! Now, Bill and Paul!

On, Ed! On Dave, On Ferd, to the back of the hall.

She continued with Marty, and Jackson, Dan, and Ron,

And ended with Elaine, Bill, Ralph, Jim, Robin and John.

Together we gathered for a photo to share

A bunch of wood carvers, a family who cares.

And after the photo two games we did play,

The first won by Candy who picked her own name (odd I would say.)

Next, we named three kind words about our guest.

For many, to find those three words was a quest.

Ralph was surprised by what his wife said,

but all agreed she hit the nail on the head.

The fine evening ended with a gift to remember,

An ornament filled with wood chips for December.

and as we all headed into the snowy night,

We heard John exclaim with giddy delight:

“Merry Christmas to all,

I am no longer president after tonight.”
